The Black Hills Harley and Gold Rush: Katrina Kelly



























I have had a most unique invitation recently. It was an invitation to visit South Dakota. Sturgis, South Dakota, specifically; a beautiful land, where buffalo and Harley Davidson’s roam. Once a year, half a million plus motorcycle enthusiasts take great pride in attending a Legendary Motorcycle Rally here. They indulge in a camaraderie and admiration for open air and motorcycles. If one can see through the sea of chrome, the chrome eventually turns to gold and quartz. As a jewelry designer, it was the gold and minerals history that caught my attention. A gold rush in the late 1800’s enticed an influx of people willing to risk possible attacks from Sioux Indians to get their stake of gold. And then there is the second longest cave in America called The Jewel Cave, The Badlands, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Wild Bill…
