The Black Hills Harley and Gold Rush: Katrina Kelly

I have had a most unique invitation recently. It was an invitation to visit South Dakota. Sturgis, South Dakota, specifically; a beautiful land, where buffalo and Harley Davidson’s roam. Once a year, half a million plus motorcycle enthusiasts take great pride in attending a Legendary Motorcycle Rally here. They indulge in a camaraderie and admiration for open air and motorcycles. If one can see through the sea of chrome, the chrome eventually turns to gold and quartz. As a jewelry designer, it was the gold and minerals history that caught my attention. A gold rush in the late 1800’s enticed an influx of people willing to risk possible attacks from Sioux Indians to get their stake of gold.
