So if a man and woman exchange wedding rings, why don’t they exchange engagement rings? Why does a woman always receive the engagement ring and not the man? Gosh! Did I just open Pandora’s box here? But sincerely don’t you think it’s a fair thought.
Traditionally considered holy the big fat American wedding is a little more than being the holy union, a lifelong commitment, it’s a retail fantasy. So you talk of promise ring, engagement ring, wedding rings, wedding dresses, bridesmaid gifts, wedding gifts, anniversary rings and the list goes on. Of all these baubles, though, perhaps the trickiest is the engagement ring. More than 80 percent American brides receive a diamond engagement ring at the time of engagement. So come to think of it what, beyond the misty promise of endless love, the ring actually signifies?
