patience

sweetambs
I'm back from a very productive weekend of Ikea shopping and house cleaning. With my due date about a week away, I realize that my days of solo shopping trips to Ikea on lazy Saturday afternoons may be limited, (which is really too bad, because solo shopping is one of my favorite sports, I'm very good). Hopefully this next chapter in our lives will be just as much fun as solo shopping, and I will not miss it one iota! Speaking of which, I should warn you that it's possible that sometime this week or the next (hopefully not the week after that) I may be mysteriously absent for a few days (maybe not that mysteriously absent, but absent none the less). Rest assured, I will be back with photos of the little one and updates just as soon as I am able. In the mean time, I will just keep on bloggin about pretty things. Keeping busy keeps me patient!
Speaking of patience... I found these amazingly detailed cookies on Sweet Ambs. Martha Stewart, eat your heart out! They are just so... perfect! I made lemon cookies the other day and got so sick of scooping batter after about 20 cookies, I started making them HUGE so I could be done. I can't imagine having the patience to create these little wonders by the dozens.

What to do if you Blow your Wedding Budget

Budgets are meant to be broken, right? This is the feeling of many brides, but not necessarily of their parents or fiances who are helping to pay for the wedding. If you are starting to add up all of your wedding expenses and are finding that you are coming in way over budget, it is time to take action!

Naturally the first question to ask yourself (or your parents) will be how negotiable the wedding budget really is. If your parents have set aside every penny that they could find, then that will be the final number. On the other hand, if they have a figure in mind that they would be happiest with, but can afford to splurge a little more for your big day, then maybe it is time to prioritize your wedding costs, and see where a little extra could be allotted to make your wedding really perfect.

If your budget is firm and you are way over it, then you will have to find some places to cut costs. Hopefully, you are not so far into the planning that you are locked into everything, especially the big expenses like the venue and the guest list. Assuming your invitations have not yet gone out, cutting down the guest list is by far the quickest way to slash expenses. You will save on almost everything, from food to cocktails to reception rentals to centerpieces. You might even be able to scale down the size of your reception site and even the size of the band. It can be painful, but if you think about what you could save by trimming your guest list by even 10 or 20%, it could be significant.

If it is too late to make major changes, there are still ways to get back to (or at least closer to) your original budget. You might not be able to switch vendors or venues, but you can at least cut back on some of the details. For example, you can ask your florist about substituting a less pricey flower like red carnations for costly red roses. A small change like that can make a huge difference in your bottom line.

You can also think about scaling down your music. Instead of a full band, you can hire a quartet or a trio to entertain your guests. For the cocktail hour, all you really need is one musician to provide the background music, not a large group. And for your ceremony, skip the violinist or harpist and hire the church organist instead for virtually no cost at all.

Another idea for brides who have gone over budget is to skip the favors, or find ways to make your centerpieces or place cards double as wedding favors that guests can take home. If you have a lovely ceremony, followed by a beautiful reception, the last thing that your guests are going to be thinking is, "Where is my favor?!". So don't worry if you need to cut them to get your budget back on track.

One thing that you should not omit from your wedding is your bridesmaid gifts. Forgetting to give a special thank you to your friends who have spent a lot of their precious time and money on your wedding is just plain rude. However, you certainly do not need to break the bank on your bridesmaid gifts. With a little careful shopping, you will find that you can get some stunning gifts for a very affordable price. Bridesmaid jewelry, such as a Swarovksi pearl pendant, can be so reasonably priced that even the bride who has gone way over budget will be able to afford something very pretty.

When you are planning a wedding, it is very easy for the heart to overtake the head. In fact, it happens to almost everyone, so if you find yourself going overboard, don't feel bad about it. With a little creativity, you will find that there are ways to get your wedding budget back on track.

Exposing of body for men is today’s latest FASHION and STYLE.

Increasing of body exposure in men is considered as a latest fashion and style symbol in this fashion industry. Some time back when we talk of body exposure the female picture only strikes our mind, but the time is changing now.

Exposure of body doesn’t means a lot for men, as they does not have much of what people are interested to see as compared to women. But these are the talks of past time the time is changing, men are no where behind women in exposing their body.

Today much people are there who want to see the nice figure and great body of men and also there are men who have this great physique to show and deserve so. In today’s changing environment men are much concerned about their body. They are spending much time and money for building their nice and good looking body, by which they are increasing their SEX APPEAL and attracting much attention of the people looking at them.

Today more and more male Celebrities are exposing their body publicly. Through which they gets more fame and publicity. They are putting off their shirts and t- shirts in front of all the public. The trend of exposing started in boll wood with the famous actor Salman Khan. And now the situations are this, that if the film is of Salman, girls waits for him to remove his shirt and show his body. The film of Salman is considered to be incomplete without a scene of his shirt putting off. Not only girls but boys also are found to be waiting for his shirt to be removed from his body. His short shirts are becoming craze in between boys today.
Not only this other celebrities like Akshay kumar, Shahrukh khan, Ranbir kapoor also added fame in this industry by using this technique.

These celebrities have a perfect figure, physique with a good looking body and face, which can attract every girl or women. Not only girls but boys are also copying their looks and want to look as perfect as them and making them crazy all over.

Today the situation is this that not only celebrities but also the common looking man or boy of a street copies them and is becoming more conscious towards his body and looks. Men also are much conscious of their beauty, fashion, style, looks and good physique. They are considering their body as a part of SEX APPEAL and expose it as much as possible. They also are not hesitating to expose their perfect body (if he has it) in front of girls and public by seeing these celebrities and thinking that, if they are doing so why should they?
This is the reason of increase in demand of gym, aerobic centre, training centers, saloons, etc., which are not only satisfying their customers but also making their pockets heavy.
Famous fashion designer Deepak Mehta says that today boys are using their perfect physique, for attracting the public, like a weapon. They are trying more new techniques to expose their body parts that others don’t have or rarely have. Showing their triceps, biceps, six pack abs are much common and considered trendy and fashionable in the society. They are folding their arms of the t-shirts, opening two or three upper buttons of their shirts, or putting off their shirts to increase the heart beats of the public.

“They are doing great efforts to make a change in the old picture of them” in which boys and men looks good only when properly dressed up with suits or uniforms. They are now trying to look bolder and more appealing day after day…… Biceps or six pack abs were also the wealth of some people, some time back, but the time has changed. It is not to be covered but it should be exposed and uncovered to look more beautiful and fashionable.

Boys today are not only spending their precious time to build their physique but also are not hesitating to spend lot of money on it. Clothes are considered to be very important in the world of fashion and style. But now-a-days without them also is the past of fashion and style. People are always spen
ding more money in buying more and more stylish, good looking, branded, and expensive clothes and on the other hand we also try to look more stylish, fashionable, trendy and cool by tearing our clothes and making them look fashionable by exposing our body parts. A torned jeans from the knees is a good example.

By wearing this jeans people tries to look themselves different and stylish from others. Not only this but the shirt without buttoned up, wearing blazer without shirt, putting up slightly transparent shirts, short t-shirts with low waist jeans showing stomach and waist, showing belt of some branded underwear, cut sleeves and deep round neck shirt and t-shirt shows the craze towards the exposure of body in men, by which they thinks that they are looking more fashionable, stylish, trendy, etc., etc., etc.
Today the demand of good physique or rather sexy looking men are also increasing as compared to women at some time. They have a huge and great market today, which is only considered of women some time before. So keep on looking sexier, fashionable, stylish and appealing from now on wards…………..

Soiree at Josephine!

Last Thursday was one of those rare occasions when the party planners got to play! Along with Pam Barefoot and Jamie Sears (all of us above), Engaging Affairs hosted an end-of summer networking bash for the D.C. area's event professionals. The sexy Save-the-Dates and invitations were created by Saima Says Design and let guests know they were in for a special evening. We held the evening party at the hip nightclub Josephine, and because of the namesake, we played up the rich decor and the French connection.

Guests were greeted curbside by the sharp-looking guys from MarcParc Valet who provided flawless valet service. The amazing staff at Josephine managed the door beautifully and kept the drinks flowing. We served specialty cocktails like The French Martini, the Napolean and the Josephine. The Josephine (a peachy drink garnished with a tiny peach-colored flower) was my personal favorite!

Kelly Jenkins from Capital Decor created a stunning shelvinf unti to hold desserts with Jospehine Bonaparte's portrait as a backdrop. He also fashioned two ornate French chairs into cupcake displays using glass shelves. So much fun!

Nick Perez from Multiflor provided sultry floral decor that included chic, low arrangements with lots of feathers and rich colors to go with the rich fabrics on the walls and furniture. Of course, we used lots of candles.

The fabulous mini cupcakes were provided by Kendall Barrett from Kendall's Cakes. My personal favorite is the lemon curd but Sara is in love with the carrot cake. She also brought chocolate, coconut and red velvet. And since they were the mini versions, you could eat a bunch without feeling guilty. Heaven!

For another European touch, we brought in Patricia Rice to paint a classic oil portrait of the party as it unfolded. It was such fun to watch her paint and see the image evolve from a blank canvas to a beautiful painting. If you look closely, you might notice some familiar faces in the painting!

Guests had a wonderful time mingling and networking. It was great to see so many of our colleagues in a purely fun environment!

The ladies from Engaging Affairs were out in full force. Check out the Engaging Affairs team below: Amy, Sara, Laura, Christine and Grace.

Lara Stuckey of Fluffy Thoughts made the black and white French macaroons that guests took away at the end of the night. Since I ate mine in the car on the way home, I can attest to the fact that they were delicious!

A huge thanks to my fellow planners, Pam and Jamie, and to all the vendors who made the party so gorgeous and such a big hit! A special thanks to Juan Carlos Briceno of Fotobriceno for the gorgeous photos of the event and all of the special details.
Merci,
Laura

Tips for Looking Younger and Beautiful

We all aspire to look younger and beautiful. Yet, age catches up with us sooner or later. But remember age is just a number. If you continue to follow certain practices, looking young and beautiful is possible even at a later age. However, females need to pay attention to certain aspects and they will feel the difference.

Start with drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day. Water will keep you hydrated. It also helps in making your face shine and glow apart from kicking out toxins from your body. Check your hairstyle. You might be sticking to an old hairstyle and that does not help in making you look younger. Go for a younger and more carefree look. Its advantage will be seen in your appearance. Try to be subtle when it comes to eye makeup. Try to maintain balance while going for eyebrow outlining. Whenever you go out in the day, remember to use sunscreen lotion to protect your skin from harmful ultra violet (UV) rays. The sunscreen you are using must have at least 15 SPF.

Lipstick colors must be of neutral shades like pink or beige. Ignore brown or bright red shades. Experiment with facial sitting, pedicure and manicures once in a month. You will be delighted with the experience. Use young fragrance as it will make you appear younger. Ignore processed foods as well as food items with too much sugar in them. You must maintain a confident posture. Try to include exercise in your routine apart from getting at least 7-8 hours sleep on a daily basis. Follow these tips to find yourself young and beautiful once again.

Hurrah!

The website is finished! I decided to keep and update the old one, which I am very fond of, rather than go for a whole new system. I have re-structured it and extended it to make it easier to use (I hope) and more informative.

Please feel free to have a look and let me know what you think. It has been a labour of love, but I have learned quite a bit more about Dreamweaver now (and my trusty Dreamweaver for Dummies is looking a bit dogeared!), plus I have tried the patience of my friend Phil, who set the site up for me in the first place, to the limit, with my numerous emails entitled HELP! only to then discover the answer for myself ten minutes later. I am sure there was much eye-rolling....

Brides and Empowerment

It's Labor Day weekend, and I'm prioritizing my three days. Mostly I'm thinking about the upcoming bridal show/fair, "Out of the Box Bridal" at Pavilion In The Park, September 10. I'm always leery of bridal fairs, but this one promises to be different, with a more intimate setting, fewer vendors, and just one of each type of vendor, and all of quality, like Stanley's.

I'm focusing on what information I'll take, what jewelry I'll take, and how we'll get the brides and brides' families attention. I considered making distinct Stanley cookies, with a diamond on top, but I think we'll give out mugs with Tazo tea instead. Who doesn't like tea? No one, I think.

Maybe the Stanley cookies will debut this Christmas! Maybe. For this Thursday, I'm going to bring beautiful white diamonds and some vivid colors, too. Also some fancy shapes, wedding bands, gifts for the bridal party, and something for mom.

Most importantly, I'm going to encourage the brides to open their own personal Stanley charge account, with a little help from Wells Fargo, because after 6 years of marriage, I know it's important to be able to buy myself a little treat and pay it off in a few months without stressing out the household account!

So, ladies, remember, it's not a bad thing to maintain your own personal gift account. You just buy something, pay it off, then buy something else. In this economy, if you can do that, without paying interest (6 months no interest with Stanley's), you are way ahead of the game. And you are allowed to buy him something with your account, too!

A good question ~Why do We Wear Jewelry??

Jewelry has been a part of human culture for thousands of years. The oldest piece of jewelry in existence today dates back almost 100,000 years. How has jewelry survived and evolved throughout history? Why is jewelry such an intrinsic part of our everyday life?

The word "jewelry" comes from the word "jewel," an anglicized version of the Old French word "jouel." The word "jouel" is derived from the Latin word "jocale," which means "plaything." This meaning hints towards the origin of jewelry as a plaything, something shiny and pretty that was ultimately meaningless. However, over time jewelry began to be used for a variety of reasons. Jewelry can express the status of a person, or signify membership in a particular group.
